The STIP outlines transportation projects scheduled within the next decade and the associated costs. However, with inflation on the rise and department funds quickly dwindling, this blueprint will see some significant changes in the decade ahead.
Delayed Projects and Limited Funds Impact 2024-2033 STIP
NCDOT is working on overhauling the 2024-2033 STIP of 3,921 projects. They will not be adding new projects and will delay numerous projects in the second half of the proposed 10-year plan.
While last year’s infrastructure bill contributed significant funds to NCDOT, it still leaves the department without enough money to complete all of the projects in the current STIP. In addition, as the General Assembly chose to divert hundreds of millions in general sales tax to NCDOT, it was still insufficient to ease its financial hardship. As a result, the department is seeking public input.
